Cascading Floral Arrangement

Following our DIY Travel Themed Guest Book Tutorial last week, I’m back with the tutorial for the cascading floral arrangement I had done for JRIM’s small black & white luggage bags.

All you need is:

Luggage bag
Oasis foam
Aluminum foil
Light pink Eustomas
Pink spray carnations
Rufus leaves
Thorn Strippers
Scissors
Bamboo skewers

Step one, soak the foam in water and wrap the foam in aluminum foil. Double/triple wrap the bottom to ensure that it doesn’t leak while you’re arranging the flowers.

Step two, prep the flowers. Using the thorn strippers, remove all leaves from the stems of the eustomas and carnations. If you don’t have a thorn stripper, you can use scissors or remove them by hand. It’ll take some time, but the job gets done anyways. I have to admit, using a thorn stripper gets the job done in seconds!

Step three, insert the foam inside the luggage compartment. To keep the luggage open, take one bamboo skewer and insert it in the foam to your desired height. My one main trick while working with a foam wrapped in foil is that I’ll always pre-poke holes in the foam using the bamboo skewers, sometimes the stems of the flowers aren’t strong enough to penetrate the foil/foam. With the pre-poke holes, the flowers slide in like a glove!

Step four, start with the eustoma, fill up the visible area (open up the luggage for easier access).

Step five, for a pop of color, add in the spray carnations sprasely amongst the eustomas. Once you’re happy with that, move on to the cascading bit of the arrangement. Cut the ruscus leaves to desired lengths and insert into the foam at the corner of the luggage bag.

And tadaa! You’re done and you may now admire your creation!
